Sciatic Pain

Treatment at Bridge to HealthSciatic pain can be a highly debilitating condition, and one which frequently presents in an osteopathic clinic because of the recognised link with lower back and pelvic dysfunction.

The causes of “sciatica” – defined loosely as intermittent or constant shooting pain in the buttock and lower limb – are in fact quite wide-ranging: inter alia, they may relate to an inter-vertebral disc prolapse, to age-related spinal arthritis, to an inter-vertebral joint inflammation or joint capsule strain, through to a buttock muscle strain compressing the sciatic nerve.

As tests point to sciatic nerve involvement, so our next priority is to assess which body tissues are involved in the sciatic nerve impingement. Osteopathy has a high success rate in alleviating sciatica symptoms, even in the instances where the compression is caused by a disc bulge.
