How Acupuncture can support Fertility
Acupuncture for fertility has been found to increase blood flow to the reproductive organs, balance hormone levels, help the quality of eggs released, regulate the menstrual cycle and improve the lining of the uterus.  PCOS and endometriosis have also been show to improve with regular acupuncture treatment. If you are trying to conceive naturally a minimum of 12 treatments over a 3 month period is recommended so we can chart progress over 3 cycles.  Acupuncture can also benefit male fertility with positive effects on sperm count, morphology and motility. The difficulties couples face when encountering fertility problems can lead to stress, which may further decrease chances of conception (Eugster & Vingerhoets, 1999). Acupuncture can also support the signs and symptoms of stress.

Acupuncture and successful IVF outcome

German researchers have found Acupuncture increased conception rates in IVF by almost 50% (Fertility & Sterility, April 2002 issue). The ideal time to start receiving Acupuncture is three months before Assisted Reproduction begins.  This is the preparation time in order to increase the chances of conception and a healthy full-term pregnancy.
When the assisted cycle begins Acupuncture aims to negate any side effects caused by drug treatments. It works with the hormonal flows to increase its effects i.e. blood circulation to the uterus, the thickness of the endometrium.
