Say Hello to The Protein Shack!

One of the biggest challenges my clients face is how to eat healthily when they’re out. It’s all very well having access to loads of fantastic ingredients when you’re at home but what do you do when you’re rushing about and the only available options seem to be sorry looking sandwiches and sugar rich treats? Cue The Protein Shack, a new food and juice bar that recently opened in the centre of Uxbridge - there really are no more excuses for eating badly when out and about!


The Protein Shack is the brainchild of the lovely Michelle Bradley. Michelle has always been interested in health and fitness but she found that she was getting increasingly frustrated with all the food and drink offerings in all the gyms she worked out at. She couldn’t understand how places that were meant to be pushing the healthy living message could have vending machines stuffed with chocolates, crisps and drinks scarily high in sugar. This got Michelle thinking that there was a real need for a place where busy people could pick up nutritious and tasty food that wouldn’t break the bank. She knew straight away that this was what she wanted to dedicate all her energy into and she immediately set up The Protein Shack as a company. After a year and a half of hard work, lots of planning and red tape negotiation The Protein Shack finally opened its doors last month (with no other than Boris Johnson cutting the official ribbon!)


The menu reads like a dream and as a nutritionist I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that these foods are now available to myself and my clients. From smoothies to juices to fantastically affordable lunches (chicken and veg pots from as little as £2.50!), The Protein Shack really has it all covered. I also love the fact that they offer some fantastic coffee alternatives such as matcha lattes and turmeric tea (those of you that know me know I’m a massive fan of the matcha latte!) So, no more excuses for not reducing your coffee intake!


When I popped down on one of my many visits Michelle informed me that the menu has been put together by Rob Hobson, a big name in nutrition circles and the man responsible for putting together the menu for The Detox Kitchen (a well known and incredibly successful London cafe and food delivery service). And believe you me, you can tell. There’s not one item on the menu that doesn’t tick all my boxes. (And that doesn’t happen often!)


Current customer favourites include The Cheeky Monkey smoothie (vanilla protein, banana, yoghurt, milk, peanut butter, chia seeds and cinnamon) and the Lean and Green juice (kale, celery, cucumber, spinach and pineapple). Michelle herself is a ginger fiend and admits one of her favourites is the Ginger Ninja juice (carrot, apple and ginger) - boom!


One of my favourite things about the Protein Shack is that they’re always happy to adapt any recipe to suit your needs. So, if you’re dairy free they’ll happily swap milks for you or if you’re not a massive fan of a certain ingredient they’ll take it out without any questions asked. That’s what I call customer service!


If reading this has got your mouth watering I highly recommend you get down to The Protein Shack next time you’re mooching round the centre of Uxbridge. Feel your energy levels soar as you sip on a delicious smoothie rather than experiencing that familiar energy dip that comes after munching on a coffee and cake!
