The Ealing Half-Marathon: Are You in Training and can Acupuncture Help?
24th September 2017 is the big date in your diary and you are probably (hopefully) already in training for this event. So you have your training schedule worked out which, in amongst work, family and other pressures of life, you are valiantly trying to stick to. You may also have your nutrition covered. Or maybe you are waiting until the last few days leading up to the event and after the excesses of the summer are over, to really ramp up the healthy eating. But even the best laid plans can get derailed by niggling injuries. These can be really frustrating and your main focus will be how to recover as quickly as possible. This is where acupuncture can help.
Acupuncture can be used alongside other therapies, such as osteopathy, physiotherapy and pharmaceuticals, to help heal an injury and get you back on track. In Chinese Medicine terms acupuncture can help bring Blood and Qi to an area of the body which has been damaged. In this brief video, ‘Acupuncture is Athletic Gold!’ a group of therapists discuss how acupuncture can help athletes with their training and how it can be used in conjunction with other therapies. The discussion ranges from proof via MRI scans of the effectiveness of acupuncture, to how it can help with digestion and sleep, and also mentions the other tools acupuncturists use, such as cupping, massage and moxibustion.
In a previous blog I have described successful treatment for heel pain (plantar fasciitis) and for back pain.
