The Spirit of Christmas

The Spirit of Christmas
As the jingle of Santa’s sledge and carols echo over the high street loud speakers, and we gear ourselves up for Christmas cheer, it is hard not to be mindful of a very different experience of the seasonal rejoicings: that of homelessness, loneliness, hypothermia, hunger and fear.

Some great local organisations are gearing themselves up to ensure that those less fortunate than ourselves are not forgotten: the Ealing Winter night shelter project,  Acton Homeless Concern, We are Trinity and closer to Bridge to Health, its two local churches, St John Mattock Lane in Ealing and St Margaret’s in Uxbridge .

St John’s runs a soup kitchen all year round with the help of volunteers and other churches across the borough.  Their Christmas kitchen runs from the 23rd to the 26th December, and volunteers for kitchen work and food service can contact the parish office.  I had a great experience there of serving food and washing up last Christmas alongside Ealing MP Rupa Huq, and intend to return with my daughter this year if they will have us.

So if you have a little time available over this Christmas, why not join a local initiative and extend some of the real spirit of Christmas?

We all wish you a very peaceful and joyous Christmas, and a health-fuelled and fulfilling 2018.

Yours in health,

Mathieu
