Bina Patel Dip, BSc (Hons), MBACP
Specialism: Counselling / PsychotherapyBina is a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Her previous career as a dentist gave her a good understanding of issues such as avoidance, anxiety and phobias. She often helped people overcome their fears by supporting them on a journey they did not think was possible. This was extremely rewarding and drew her to counselling therapy which she sees as a ‘journey from the impossible to new possibilities’. Her own personal therapy proved to be life-changing. It helped her switch careers and create more balance in her professional and personal life. She feels privileged to work with clients as they try and carve meaning out of the challenges in their lives.
In the past 10 years Bina has worked with adults (18+) from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, economic and social backgrounds. Her own multicultural childhood (Indian, African and British) has exposed her to an understanding of diversity which she brings to her practice. Each client is unique and may be supported on a short-term, or more open-ended, basis depending on their needs. These can include struggles with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, poor physical health, addictions, constant weight problems, poor body image, bereavement, childhood trauma, abuse, cultural conflict, challenges of ageing and divorce. Sometimes we are not even sure what is bothering us but things ‘just don’t feel right’.
To this end, counselling is not merely for the life-stopping challenges described. It can also be insightful and provide fertile ground for overcoming the daily obstacles of life which impede personal and professional progress and fulfilment.
Bina offers a warm, safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to clients where they can bring whatever is on their mind to therapy, and explore what matters to them most so that life can be embraced more confidently, meaningfully and with purpose.
Counselling is often referred to as “talk therapy”. Sometimes words may fail us. Bina offers a creative approach and incorporates aspects of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), compassion focussed therapy, art therapy and mindfulness (breathing) practice as well as talk therapy to meet client’s needs.
Bina offers counselling in English, Gujarati and Hindi.
