Back Pain Treatment

Osteopaths are skilled at preventing back pain from becoming a long-term condition. We use joint mobilisation and manipulation, and soft tissue massage to realign joints, stretch muscles and release tension. We treat the specific areas of pain but also their underlying causes. We will also give you tailored exercise, postural and lifestyle advice.

We sometimes require X-rays, scans and other tests to make a diagnosis and on rarer occasions may refer you to a GP or a specialist for additional investigation or treatment.

Top Tips for Back Health

  • 1.Exercise regularly both when at your desk and at home
  • 2.Keep moving and stretching at work - avoid ‘computer hump’
  • 3.Never spend more than two hours at your desk – get up and move
  • 4.Take breaks between repetitive tasks
  • 5.Pace yourself when doing heavy work e.g. gardening
  • 6.Avoid strain when lifting – learn to lift properly
  • 7.Adjust car seats and take time to stretch on long car and plane journeys
  • 8.If your back aches when getting up in the morning, check the quality of your bedding
  • 9.Aim to walk half an hour or more a day
  • 10.Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water throughout the day
