What is Pilates?

The human body is an amazing set of systems that interact with each other. We have about 650 muscles that all need to be kept in tune, and unfortunately our lifestyles and work patterns create weakness in the muscles which can lead to strain, injury and pain.

What we need is a way of keeping our muscles in tune to allow good support and fluid, efficient movement without strain. Pilates is the ideal exercise programme to achieve this.

Pilates works for everyone regardless of their level of fitness, and it can be done with little or no equipment.

What to expect in a Pilates session?

Our trained practitioner will make a thorough assessment of how you currently move and then guide you through a programme of sessions in which you will progressively and noticeably improve in your physical resilience. People who are taught Pilates often feel more confident in their movement, have more energy and feel less prone to physical injury.

In a Pilates session you will use your body both to improve muscle control and fluency of movement in a sequence of exercises that support you at your level, and then take you further.

Everybody can benefit from Pilates and our Pilates instructor works with office workers, electricians, athletes, retired people and many others. It really is suitable for everyone because it takes you from where you are to a better and more resilient state.

Please note that our Pilates instructor offers one-to-one sessions and also small group sessions of two to three people.
